The little treasure under her car — a childhood dream finally came true
Some kids dream of flying to space. My daughter dreamed of finding a box of abandoned kittens. It’s something she’s wished for since she was five.
And this week… it finally happened.
She had just finished work and walked out to the parking lot when she noticed a woman standing near her car.
“There’s a kitten underneath,” the woman said, pointing toward the shadows below.
At first, there was only silence. But then — a flash of movement. Two scared little eyes peeking out.
It took a good bit of coaxing (and a lot of patience) to lure the little guy out. He wasn’t happy about it either — howling the whole way, legs flailing, tail puffed. But he calmed the second he landed on her shoulder.
She brought him home — wet, loud, and messy — and set him up safely in the bathroom. Why the bathroom? Because, of course, she already has cats (classic cat person).
First thing the next morning, she took him to the vet. He was about three weeks old, surprisingly healthy, and negative for feline leukemia or any serious issues.
She’s keeping him in quarantine until he’s ready for vaccines and neutering at eight weeks. She also keeps checking the parking lot daily — hoping not to find more, but just in case.
I suggested calling him OSCar (a nod to the office building, OSC), but she smiled.
“He already has a name,” she said.
Harvey.
Harvey, the parking lot floof. The screaming, flailing kitten who picked her as his person.
She’s just started this new job, and this unexpected encounter feels like more than just luck. It’s a sign — that sometimes, new beginnings come wrapped in fur, with muddy paws and wide eyes. That the universe works in funny, heartwarming ways.
Harvey didn’t just fall into her lap — he chose her. And in return, she’s giving him a new start, a warm bed, and more love than he probably knew existed.
