We nearly gave up on our cat’s litter habits… until a tiny kitten changed everything

Our cat hated litter so much that for two years he refused the box completely. Nothing worked. He used the bathtub, the sink—anything but the litter. We thought we’d never fix it… until we brought home a kitten.

Scrunch came into our lives nearly two years ago as a friendly stray. He was perfect in every way—sweet, cuddly, and gentle—except one: he absolutely hated litter.

We tried every type, every box, every placement. He always avoided it. He preferred the sink. Or the bathtub. It stressed us out beyond words.

But we never gave up on him.

In April, we brought home a tiny orange kitten named Dexter so Scrunch wouldn’t feel so lonely during our workdays. What happened next stunned us.

Dexter, only 2 months old, used the litter box without fail. And Scrunch… started watching him.

Then one day, Scrunch pooped in the box—for the first time ever.

After that first poop in the litter box, everything changed.

Scrunch didn’t suddenly become a litter box pro. He still occasionally pees in the tub. But now, he consistently uses the box for #2. That’s huge.

He still won’t bury it—he hates the feel of litter. But little Dexter often walks in after him and buries it himself, like a little helper.

Seeing Dexter’s confidence gave Scrunch the courage to try something he had avoided for years. And maybe, just maybe, Scrunch realized he wasn’t alone anymore.

He started curling up with Dexter. Grooming him. Showing him how to play with the laser pointer. Even sharing toys and space on the cat tree.

Their bond is beautiful—and healing.

We didn’t expect Dexter to fix anything. But sometimes love, routine, and the quiet magic of companionship can do what no trick or vet tip ever could.

We still clean the tub.

But we do it smiling now.

Because this tiny kitten helped our Scrunch find comfort… and maybe even a little joy in a box of litter.
